PLA + PBAT is the raw material for all biodegradable plastic bags produced by Xiayu Technology. Different proportions of these two degradable materials are used to manufacture industrial packaging bags and daily-use packaging bags suitable for various application scenarios. The ratio of PLA to PBAT determines subsequent processes such as film blowing, printing, and hot cutting, and influences the physical and chemical properties of the bags. Today, we will share how Xiayu Technology optimizes the content ratio of PLA and PBAT.

Type A Ratio:

40%~60% PLA, 40%~50% PBAT, and ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer.

Type B Ratio:

40%~70% PLA, 30%~50% PBAT, and aliphatic polyesters.

Type Y Ratio:

30%~60% PLA, 40%~50% PBAT, and modified cellulose.

Type V Ratio:

50%~70% PLA, 30%~60% PBAT, and other natural additives (essentially thermoplastic starch).

All the above four PLA + PBAT ratios developed by Xiayu Technology are fully biodegradable. These ratios were proposed in the 1980s by Novamont, a company under Italy's Montedison Group, as part of the EU Green Plan, with a total investment of 10 million pounds. Pilot production began in Terni, Italy, in 1999 with an annual capacity of 5,000 tons, which expanded to 31,000 tons in 2001 and 100,000 tons in 2003. A factory with an annual capacity of 80,000 tons was also built in the United States. In 2007, Japan Synthetic Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. acquired the technical patent to produce and sell PLA + PBAT films in Japan; the two companies jointly constructed a plant with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons in Japan, and the output reached 163,000 tons in 2009. Currently, these PLA + PBAT ratios have been patented in more than a dozen countries, including China. When the product was first launched, the price was 8,000 German marks per ton. After 2015, it dropped to 800,000 Japanese yen per ton in Japan and 3,200~5,000 US dollars per ton in the United States.
